It is time!

Wow haven’t we been busy over the last 4 months! But of course you already knew that by the mind-blowing number of posts over that time…

I jest, I jest.

But now, after working flat out on getting our brewery up and running, brewing batch after batch, we are ready to release our beloved children to the world!

Look at all that beer we could be potentially drinking ourselves. But instead we offer to you. Now I don't use the word 'hero' lightly...

We have been busy building, painting, brewing, bottling, and loving, and now we have the following initial offer for anyone wanting to whet their Abbotsford Extreme Beer appetite.

Skunkworks Cognac Barrel Aged Double IPA

And, for a special pre-release of our Perverse Sexual Amalgam – Black Wild Ale with Cherry Plums, we have the following insight into our “professional” operations…

This beer will be available at the inaugural Crafty Pint Birthday Extravaganza this Saturday night in the Atrium – Fed Square. Ensure that you are there, because this beer is an absolute nipple-twisting, pore-clogging, mouth-pinching beauty!

And don’t forget to get down to Purvis Richmond on Bridge Road tonight (Friday 14th October) for an exclusive Moon Dog Craft Brewery tasting event. The Skunkworks Double IPA will be there for all to come and try!

So, now that I’ve taken my lazy lack-of-posting-posts shoes off, you’ll be hearing from me all too often. You’ll seriously be getting sick of me before the week is done!

Until next time my good friends, enjoy yourselves.

GBW Day One

First of all I would like to apologise to all those out there who went to Biero last night and found no trace of ‘The Artisan Poser’.

We have been advised that our Pumpkin Ale will be tapped on Wednesday, and there are a few people (including Moon Dog) attending Biero for lunch at 1pm. Again sorry for any inconvenience.

Secondly I’d like to thank Mrs Parma’s and Josie Bones for their impeccable hospitality last night. We had a great time, drinking great beer, eating great food, and enjoying the company of great people.

So now, with Day one under our (very seedy) belts, we look forward to see what the rest of the week holds:

Tonight:

We will be delivering the Raindrops on Roses IPA keg to Penny Blue this afternoon. So it should be tapped for this evening. If there are any changes to this plan, you folk will be the first to know.

After Penny Blue is all setup, we will be heading to the Local Taphouse in St Kilda to taste the Cock-Sockin’ Stout and some other great beers. After dinner, we may head back to Penny Blue. Not sure at this stage.

Wednesday:

The Artisan Poser is being tapped at Biero. A bunch of beer lovers will be convening at Biero at 1pm for a quiet lunch and some Poser consuming.

Wednesday night is of course the Collab launch at Mountain Goat. That hasn’t changed.

Everything else is pretty much unchanged at this stage. Stay tuned for any updates.

Oh, except Saturday. We are getting tickets to the Great Beer Debate. That should be a good night. Lots of heckling I hope. There’ll be a few kegs of the Collab beer there too.

Cheers,

MDCB

Good Beer Week – It’s here!

Here is our Good Beer Week Calendar!

Monday 16th May 2011

Mrs Parmas will be tapping the “George Freeth Memorial Brown Ale”, with 4 kegs to last at least the week we hope. The Moon Dogs and friends will be dining at this fine establishment Monday night, so come along and enjoy the fruity goodness!

Local Taphouse will be tapping the “Cock-Sockin’ Ball Knockin’ Chipotle Stout” on Monday. They have one keg here, and one keg going to Darlinghurst.

Biero will also be tapping “The Artisan Poser” pumpkin ale. We’ll probably be heading down there for a glass or four after Mrs Parmas. With only one keg on offer, this is NOT a beer to miss people. Get in early because it will go!

Tuesday 17th May 2011

The “Black Lung” will be tapped at Josie Bones. They have two kegs to last them the week, and they will be matching the beer against some great food.

The “Raindrops on Roses” IPA will be tapped at Penny Blue. Moon Dog will be heading down there for a good night. These guys only have one keg which will be on the hand pump, so get in early.

Wednesday 18th May 2011

Of course you can’t go past the Abbotsford Collaboration launch at Mountain Goat Brewery in Richmond. I believe doors open at 5, and we will be there of course. Probably spend most of the night there.

Thursday 19th May 2011

The Abbotsford Collaboration will be launched at venues other than Mountain Goat. Venues are as follows:

  • Royston
  • Local Taphouse
  • Beer Deluxe
  • Terminus (Clifton Hill)
  • Biero
  • Josie Bones
  • Wheatsheaf (Adelaide)
  • And for the Great Beer Debate.

Don’t know what we’ll be doing that night. Thursday is a long way away.

Friday 20th May 2011

The ‘Weird and Wonderful Guided Lunch’ will be on at Josie Bones. Moon Dog will be presenting the desert beer portion of the lunch, with a quick talk from yours truly. The beer of course will be the ‘Black Lung’. Hopefully there will be some left.

Friday night not sure. I think that’s the night of the beer awards, and as we didn’t get tickets, we’ll probably just sit in a bar somewhere drinking and reminiscing.

The Weekend

No idea. Far too far in the future. Something about partying at Penny Blue on Sunday. More details closer to the date.

Love for all Good Beer Week celebrators!

Good Beer Week Lineup!

Here it is Ladies and Gentlemen, the official Moon Dog Craft Brewery Line-up for  Good Beer Week , stretching from Monday May 16th to Saturday May 21st 2011.

Pour this manifest in a finely crafted snifter, swirl it around in your literary hand, dunk your  journalistic nose in, and then chug it down like the connoisseur you are!

The George Freeth Memorial Tropical Brown Ale

This mixture of Hawaiian pineapple citrus flavours and Polynesian coconut sweetness adds the perfect Moon Dog edge to a superbly malty and big bodied Brown Ale. A special beer to go with a special Parma.

Available: Mrs. Parmas, 25 Little Bourke Street

Cock-sockin’ Ball-knockin’ Chipotle Stout

A completely outrageous massively built black stout with deep coffee aromas and flavours of chocolate and roasted malt. For all you out there who want more than just a chili beer with a spicy aftertaste, we’ll be pushing this one through the infamous Randall filled to the brink with flaming Chipotle-smoked Jalapeños and Cascade hop flowers.

Available: Local Taphouse, 184 Carlisle St, St Kilda

The Black Lung

“I think I’m getting the black lung pop. It’s not very well ventilated down there”

This really, really, ridiculously good looking bourbon barrel aged smokey porter will have you gasping for that last breath of clean air before succumbing to the strong roasty smoked flavour of this offering. A beer a long time in the making, the Black Lung will surely have you reaching for that ventilator asking “You can read minds?”

Available: Josie Bones, 98 Smith St, Collingwood

Raindrops on Roses, and Hairs on Chests

Whilst not embodying all of our favourite things, this IPA will make you see the world in a different light. The brutishness of this 11% IPA monster is seduced and mellowed by the soft infusion of rose petals and calming rosewater flavours . This beauty is how we at Moon Dog like to portray our love to our wonderful customers.

Available: Penny Blue, 2 Driver Lane, Melbourne

The Artisan Poser

If a Moon Dog classic were to exist, this would be it. The original Moon Dog Honey Roasted Spiced Imperial Pumpkin Ale, AKA ‘The Artisan Poser’. This is where it all began. A thick sweet spiced ale with the perfect balance of pumpkin, cloves, a big malt body, and a complimentary spicy hop character. This beer can only get better as we get crazier!

Available: Biero Bar, 525 Little Lonsdale St

The Abbotsford collaboration availability will be published shortly.

Feedback on the above is most certainly encouraged. Drop us a line, come around, kick back and we’ll have a yarn.

As always, peace and love.

Good Beer Week!

Well here we are in mid-April, and what better time to discuss our upcoming events, collaborations, beers, and general trivia on everything that is Moon Dog!

First of all, we have our brand new Imperial Pale Ale on tap at Biero Bar this evening. This is one that is close to our hearts, and will be among the first beers in our launch line up. This beer was designed with the thought of taking a standard pale ale, and sinking the Moon Dog fangs in deep (to the tune of 10.5%) to make something completely outrageous. So don’t forget to head down to Biero tonight for this once-off opportunity!

Secondly: GOOD BEER WEEK!

We have caught the Good Beer Week virus and boy has it spread through our veins like the will of the borg hive mind during assimilation. This will be the largest of the Moon Dog offerings that has yet been available, with Moon Dog beer being distributed to at least six venues.

The full line up will be released closer to the aforementioned week, but be aware that to get the full Moon Dog story, each venue will need to be visited in a specific order. More details (and more nonsensical rules) to come!

And thirdly, and of course, what you are all here to read about…

The Abbotsford/Richmond Collaboration!

As has been reported, Foster’s, Mountain Goat, and Moon Dog struck up a momentous deal last night which has paved the way for the sickeningly sweet love triangle of the Abbotsford Brew! Local themes, local flavours, and eons of history from the beating heart of industrial inner-Melbourne will influence this experiment. We can’t wait to get started!

Meeting with Jamie from Matilda Bay and Dave from Mountain Goat gave us the greatest confidence that we are just a bunch of passionate guys who want to make something special. Thanks must be given to Barney from Beer Deluxe for organising the meet and getting everyone on the same page.

And finally, in terms of full scale production, we have only minor works to complete, after which we will begin production. Unfortunately our launch line-up is not ready to announce just yet. But rest assured, it will be unlike anything you would have experienced before.

Until then my special friends, may you prosper in your individual endeavours. If we don’t meet up tonight at Biero, we will definitely see you around during Good Beer Week.

Peace and love

PS – for your enjoyment, here is a picture of Josh welding the mash tun stand. Hopefully it didn’t damage the camera too much. Also below is the completed result of Josh’s artisan welding skills.
